Physically this lens is very similar to the Leica 50mm f2 Summicron-R I reviewed earlier. It is almost the same size being just a tiny bit longer, but it does weight a lot more though (maybe twice?) so you do feel it when shooting.
Performance wise this lens is very similar also, although I think overall the picture quality is slightly better in every aspect than the 50mm Summicron-R, but of course that lens does offer the f2 aperture.

Even wide open at f2.8 there is hardly any vignetting at all, probably better than the 50mm Summicron-R at f2.8 and if you just stop down to f4 it is completely gone.
Coner Sharpness
This lens does not suffer from any corner smearing, however like all the lens tested before, the corner is not as sharp when shooting at wide apertures.

As you can see when shooting wide open at f2.8 the corner is somewhat soft but becomes gradually sharper as you stop it down. By the time you get to f8 the picture is sharp across the frame.

Technical aspects aside the thing I like most about this lens is that it is able to produce beautiful results straight from f2.8 in real world use.

As with the 50mm Summicron-R you can find second hand 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-R for sale online for about $450 these days, which I think is a bargain for the quality you will be getting. If you are looking for a lens that offers great value while still being able to produce beautiful pictures then I highly recommend this lens (plus you get the benefit of owning a Leica lens).
