Having only brought along the Carl Zeiss 16-35mm f2.8 for this trip to Japan, I was quite happy to use the one lens for the entire trip. However, while out window shopping one day I discovered that the Sony 16mm Fisheye is significantly cheaper here than in Thailand. The perfect excuse to add one more lens to my collection :)

And I would have regretted not buying it, as within about an hour of walking out of the camera shop I arrived at Canal City and found myself in the perfect situation to use, and test out the new Fisheye. Canal City is a famous shopping complex in Fukuoka, with a man made canal running through the place and a water fountain show every half an hour. As soon as I walked in I was standing in the main circular courtyard, then I heard "the next water fountain show is going to start in 5 minutes"...perfect.

Still sitting in its brand new box, I unpacked the Fisheye and attached it to the a900 as quickly as I could, and as it turned out, just in time. The results can be seen above with the pictures of the water show.

If you love architectural photography, you will love Japan. There are almost every type of architectures you could ever want to photograph, both exterior and interior.

Knowing how much Japanese love brands, and that they spend a very large portion of their earnings on shopping, most of the world famous brands spared no expenses in creating their flagship stores in Tokyo. Most of these ends up being a landmark in themselves, with all of them having very unique and amazing designs.

Apart from the more extravagant buildings, you will also find in almost every side streets smaller shop buildings with plenty of character. The designs of these shops are no less intriguing, with very trendy design and decorations.

And if you are more into period designs or culture, there are plenty of historical buildings, palaces and temples to satisfy your appetite.

CZ 16-35mm f2.8 Sample Photos Walkabout Lens Around Japan Part 6 Geisha Sculpture

This Carl Zeiss lens really does well when use to capture other types of photographs other than the ones it was probably designed for, namely wide angle landscapes or interiors. It certainly is capable enough for me to be use as a walkaround lens. Although you should not expect it to be as tack sharp or it's bokeh as beautiful as a quality prime, or a qualitiy normal zoom lens.
